ABOUT THIS PLAN
In 2015, the City of Marion was one of several communities in North Carolina to be awarded a planning grant from the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) to develop a comprehensive bicycle transportation plan. The purpose of this plan is to identify opportunities and constraints for bicycling in Marion, and to establish recommendations for improvement.

THE PLANNING PROCESS
The development of this plan includes a public process, featuring input from a project Steering Committee (see column at right), and input from the public through this project website, the project comment form, two public input sessions, and a final public hearing presentation to the City Council. THE BICYCLE PLAN STEERING COMMITTEE
The Steering Committee is made up of a combination of local and regional residents, Town staff and representatives, and regional health and transportation planners. It includes representatives from the following agencies and organizations: Marion Planning Department Marion Police Department Marion Public Works McDowell County Extension Direction McDowell Health Department McDowell Trails Association NCDOT Active Routes to School NCDOT Division of Bicycle and Pedestrian Transportation NCDOT Division 13 Local Cyclists Isothermal Planning and Development |
